Color Me Excited! Awards Season at Sew Alluring

March 14th, 2012 at 7:03 pm . Posted in Thoughts on Sewing .

This is going to be a warm and fuzzy post because I’m feeling very happy and lucky that last week I was nominated for not one, but two blogging awards: the Liebster Blog Award and the Kreativ Blogger Award. When I saw the two comments letting me know about these nominations — one right after the other — I felt surprised in the best possible way. So I want to start by saying thank you so, so much to the two ladies who nominated me; they really made my day!

I am truly grateful that Kaitui Kiwi, fab seamstress and writer of The Curious Kiwi, nominated me for the Liebster Blog Award, which has these instructions:

  • Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter on your blog. Done! (And thanks again, by the way :D )
  • Link back to the blogger who presented the award to you. Done!
  • Copy/paste the blog award on your blog. Done!
  • Present the Liebster Blog Award to five blogs (with 200 followers or less). Done! See these below… (I don’t know how many followers all of these blogs have, but I really tried my best to nominate bloggers who haven’t gotten the award before for both lists of nominees below.)
  • Let them know they have been chosen by leaving a comment. It’s on my to-do list for right after publishing this post!

I’m a big fan of showing support to other bloggers, so here are my nominees:

Now on to the next award. My good friend Katie, who details adventures with her White German Shepherd on Life with Arie, kindly nominated me for the Kreativ Blogger Award (thank you, ma’am!), which says to:

Share a few things your readers and friends probably don’t know about you, and then pass it along to six other blogs.

Can do! Here’s a list of things you may not know about me:

  • I actually did try sewing when I was a kid, but I managed to break my mom’s antique sewing machine. (Don’t worry — it was fixable!)
  • I’m a quarter Japanese, something many people don’t notice when they look at me since I have pale skin and red hair. I even studied Japanese as my foreign language in college and hope to visit Japan one day.
  • I love dogs but am not a fan of cats. I never thought I would have a super girly dog like a chihuahua, but I do, and I love her. Her name is Buttercup, and she’s fiercely loyal to me and my hubby.
  • I have the biggest sweet tooth of anyone I know. Chocolate is typically my dessert of choice, but I enjoy baked goods, ice cream and fruity candy just as much.
  • I ran cross country in high school and was super in shape.
  • I went to Maui for my honeymoon (after marrying my high school sweetheart!), and it is hands down the best place I’ve ever been. I think people who live there must be perpetually happy since you can’t help but smile at the beautiful scenery that’s literally all around you there.

And my nominees for the Kreativ Blogger Award are:

  • Backlog Ninja – My hubby started his blog, Backlog Ninja, soon after I began Sew Alluring. His blog is about gaming, so it’s slightly off topic, but it’s definitely creative (he has a hit list of the games he’s beaten!). And even though I may be a little biased here, I couldn’t help but include this on my list.
  • JennySue Makeup – This is a blog I have loved for a couple of years now, given that I’m a makeup and beauty fan myself. Check it out; she offers great tips!
  • A Georgia Peach Abroad – Kaitlin and I used to be co-workers here in Georgia before she moved to the Netherlands to be with her fiance; she’s shared all about her journey on her adorable blog, A Georgia Peach Abroad.
  • Teal & Lime – Jackie at Teal & Lime is all about DIY and home design, so it’s no shock I was thrilled to find her blog recently. I was especially smitten with these amazing dining chairs.
  • Keyka Lou – Getting back to sewing blogs, Keyka Lou has some of the very cutest patterns!
  • Shwin & Shwin – And Shwin & Shwin is another great sewing and crafting blog that does awesome link parties and offers tons of helpful tutorials.

Thank you, thank you for the awards, and I hope you enjoy these new reading suggestions!
